(More customer reviews)I saw one at a rugby tournament, and figured it would be a pretty cool thing to have. At more than $130, it's a spendy something cool to have.
This is a big chair. Really big. I go 6'4", 280, so I know from big, and this chair makes me feel little. When fully set up, the overhead canopy is at about 7'. The front lip of the chair, that is the part you need to hop over to get into the chair, is at more than 3 ½'; even for me, I had to get on tiptoe to get into the chair, so shorter people are going to have to do some jumping or climbing, or get a step stool to get in.
Once inside it, this thing is all over you. It is a massive seat, and because it's made of loose canvas, you slide right down inside it. With my legs dropping over the edge, my legs still swung free over 6" from the ground. Shorter folks will have trouble getting their legs over the edge.
This thing is so big that turning sideways and using it almost like a hammock works quite well, with your head on one armrest and your feet and legs on/ovwe the other. From experience, I declare this is a great way to nap in this mega-chair.
The canopy is integral to the chair, and cannot be removed. It folds down easily with the chair for storage, and comes up easily when the chair is set up. It locks into place with gentle cradles for the metal arms on the back side (visible in the product photo). You cannot fully retract the canopy when the chair is set up, as its X-frame is connected directly to the chair back; it will only rotate back about 20 degrees.
There is no footrest for this chair, and given its price and size, this would be a perfectly logical additional feature.
There are six--count 'em, six--drink holders, three in each arm of the chair. That's a conversation starter, sure, but even if you've got a friend with you in the chair, you really only need one on each side, not six. Also, given that this chair is super-gigantic, I'm rather surprised that the drink holders are standard-size, for cans and bottles, and do not fit a large plastic water bottle or even a gigantic Quickie-Mart-style super-slurper cup. Note for future models: two holders per side, one standard and one extra-large.
There is an extra goodie in the package, and that is a padded, heat blanket-/foil-lined cooler bag. It is black to match the chair, and has a 3-sided zipper closure and handles. This is a modest cool/heat bag, and on the right side of the chair is a single zipper so that you can affix this bag, with its iced beers or heated hot wings, right to the chair and keep it at your immediate disposal. This is a pretty neat little feature, except the zipper's size, and its place on the very edge of the chair does not provide it any kind of solid support. The bag therefore hangs at a screwy angle, canted approximately 70 degrees down and away from you in the seat, with the zippered top of the bag opening way from the sitter. If anything, the zippered top of the bag should open toward the sitter.
All of this goes in the included, matching black case. The case has a single-tab zipper; a double zipper would be more helpful, to make it easier to close the case. The chair does fit into the case, but it does take some work, and is best done with a partner. It has not happened to me yet, but I'm inclined to think the zipper is going to fail sometime soon, given the very tight closure in the middle, at the widest point of the chair in the case. The case has a single sewn-on shoulder/carrying strap, which is not adjustable.
Bottom line: If you're looking for something easy to move, durable, and comfortable to sit in at a reasonable price, this isn't really it. This chair is a noteworthy and unique thingy that gets attention, draws folks in, urges them to comment, and in doing so you meet folks, have a conversation, make friends, etc. If you're up for dropping more than a hundred dollars for that, then knock yourself out.
